After the soldiers crucified Christ they knew He was dead so they did not break His legs, however, one soldier did peirce His side with a sword, spilling His blood and water. A drop of blood fell into the soldier's mouth, but he thought nothing of it.

The next day, he slept past the sunrise and woke only at night with an incredible thirst for human blood.

I know this...because I am that soldier.
